In today’s society it’s become normal for things to be looked at in a negative light. The downsides and criticisms of people, things, and ideas shine bright while the humans, work, and ambitions sit in the shadows. These days it’s easy to get caught up in the bad, so what if we amplified the good?
On the outside looking in, my favorite musical artist has one of the most negative images in the industry. He’s been thrown in a hostile environment as a kid and has been treated in many cases, as if he’s not human.
However, listening to deep cuts and other album tracks, he tells stories about pain and his triumph though it. His fans point to his emotional and relatable tracks as their reason for appeal, while many outsiders and media outlets exclusively amplify his violent and reckless side.
My goal is to shift perspectives and show how society feeds off negativity more than anything else.

Entering the project my initial idea was more broad and involved music as a whole, rather than a specific genre or artist. I researched various topics relating to the medium such as how we interact with it psychologically.
Now understanding how music can hold such a different meaning from person to person, I decided to try and communicate how and why I view an artist that is normally viewed in a more negative light, highly.
Continued research moved to the field as I interacted with the artists communities to find why others also gravitate to the artist including asking questions, reading forums, watching fan interactions, and reading lyrics/listening to songs.
With the large scale of the project and involvement of multiple mediums, organization and planning was crucial.
I utilized spreadsheets to track progress and ideas across the various subsections and moments of the concert-like experience, created a manuscript to help establish the story, flow, and timeline of the experience, and ideated visual concepts with moodboards.
Creating the project involved utilizing multiple mediums to effectively communicate the message and to build an immersive experience. 3D modeling programs Blender and Cinema 4D were used to prototype the physical stage. The final audiotrack was cut, edited, and mixed in Adobe Audition. Lastly, stills and styleframes were created before moving to motion and stage construction.
Due to the location and equipment constraints, many issues had to be worked through in collaboration with the communication design team at CCS in order to prepare it for the student exhibition show it was featured in (Early Summer 2024). This included recreating the main screen visual at a ratio aspect three times taller.
The final renders and edits made allowed the experience to live in a permanent and digital format.
